Hi! I’m Gillian Cruz.
Born in 1991.
BS in Development Communication. UPLB graduate.
Close friends call me Gilly.
I live a pretty laid-back life. And the things that make me happy include old school music, twisted films, The Beatles, beer, Los Baños, good food, and peace & love.
July 13, Friday. The night was kind of unplanned. My closest group of college friends (yes, Edcom ‘08) decided to have a night-out in LB on Friday the 13th. The original plan is to rent a room in V3 (because we’d want a videoke for a night of nonstop singing). Rent a room in V3, and sleep at Ern’s place. Everyone who works in Metro Manila (me, Candy, Mariel, Dustin, Leah and Alyssa) will meet in the bus station in Buendia so we could go to LB together. Jazz arrived in LB in the afternoon for her diploma, so we asked her to do the arrangements in V3.
The original plan suddenly changed because of a super spontaneous decision made during the bus ride to LB. Due to heavy rain in Manila, we arrived in the bus station quite later than we expected. We got on the bus at past 9. It’s really late and our friends who are already in LB were getting tired of waiting. Jazz called and told us that the V3 in front of Boston Cafe closes at 12, while the one in LB Square closes at 1. Yes, and it’s all because of that freakin’ curfew. -_- We expected to arrive in LB at 11PM. And by that time, we’ll only be having two hours left for a night which is supposed to be fun. And sure, we can continue the get-together at Ern’s place, but unfortunately he can’t be reached through phone. And besides, we’re not sure if could still buy drinks at the time we’ll arrive because of the liquor ban. TWO HOURS IS NOT ENOUGH.
Then suddenly, Kuya Dustin thought of something — why don’t we just rent a private resort in Pansol, and then go to LB the next morning? BRILLIANT. At least in a private resort, there is no curfew. We have our videoke. No liquor ban in Pansol! And we have a pool! :D PERFECT.
Good thing our friends are always GAME on everything! When we told them about this sudden change of plans, they agreed of course!
We celebrated Irish’s twentieth birthday that night!
SESSION! :D I think I was singing “What’s Up” here.
And here’s a remake of the old poolside photo of Edcom ‘08 from last year:
The old one is better, definitely, because there are more people present. :D With us here is Tope, Claire’s boyfriend. Kin left earlier because he has a class at 9AM. Haha! Perfect epitome of an average UPLB student. Charrrr.
We left the resort at 7AM. Some went home already but some of us went to LB to say visit our HOME! <3 We had breakfast at Bugel’s.
After breakfast, I went to my boyfriend’s place to get some sleep. We planned to watch The Amazing Spiderman in the afternoon, and of course, I don’t want to fall asleep in the cinema so I needed to get enough sleep. HAHA! He woke me up at 12 noon telling me that if I want to catch the 2:30PM screening I should be getting up already.
BUUUT, I was too hung-over (Mojitos, you traitor!), and I’m pretty much sure that if we go and watch, I’ll ruin the cinema carpet with my vomit. I swear. And might be spending most of the time in the restroom puking. SO… NO. Staying in bed is the best thing to do. We just slept until 4PM, and had our “lunch” in Bonitos at 5PM. And then we went home, me to Biñan, and Miguel to QC. Yeah, so basically, I spent most of my day in LB sleeping. THE END.
Haha. But yes really, this is the best weekend I had so far since I started working! :D We looove college so much, and these are our little ways to "turn back time" and unwind. :)
A week before graduation, Jazz posted on the EDCOM 08 Facebook group and suggested for us to have a dinner on the night before the graduation ceremonies. I thought an Edcom Night-Out wouldn’t be complete without videoke. :) A lot agreed to go, knowing that it’s going to be the last night-out we’ll be having as students.
And so, after the graduation rehearsals, and after doing the Edboard’s task to distribute the graduation portraits, we went to Sizzler’s to have dinner.
A year ago, during our sem-ender that we held in a resort in pansol, we were talking about our plans for our internship, our plans for the next sems and other random not-so important things. Now, here we are, a year after, talking about work — our eyed employers, our dreams careers, more serious things. We are really graduating. It’s starting to really sink in.
At around 10 PM, after dinner, we decided to have more fun. We rented a room in V3 for a long videoke night! We stayed there until past 1AM. It was a fun fun night! We sang the old ones that we usually sing during Edcom night-outs. But one of my friends (I won’t say who) started to be emotional when Jazz started to reserve the so-called “graduation songs.” It was really sad knowing that you’ll rarely see each other after the next day’s event.
Fun night, just like the good ol’ ones we’ve had… except that it’s an alcohol-free night. :) Of course, we don’t want to march with hangovers. Haha.
After V3, Melba, Jazz, Kuya Dustin, Bryan and I decided to have a late lunch/early breakfast in Bugel’s! Melba and I have been planning to eat here since the school year started but it never happened because… I’m not really sure why. Haha. I don’t know, whenever the two of us talk, we never fail to mention Bugel’s.
We went home minutes before the clock strikes three. Only few hours left ‘til our Graduation. Jazz told me later that she’s happy because her last dinner in LB as a student is a meal from Bugel’s. I’m also glad about that, of course! She slept in our apartment that night, too.
So yeah, that’s how our last night in LB (as students) was spent! I’m glad that I spent it with my close college friends. :)

So, what’s the best way to celebrate your 21st birthday? Eat a lot with your loved ones, of course! Haha. I turned 21 last Wednesday, and all I did the whole day is eat, take nap, and eat and eat and eat. :D I had a really hard exam to start the day, though. And I was 30 minutes late my next class so I wasn’t able to take the quiz — but I got to submit my paper, which is already a week late actually. But let’s not talk about it, because those are not part of the celebration. HAHA.
Here’s what happened after those mishaps (haha!):
Lunch Date with Miguel @ Bonitos! This is my first meal for the day! I was overfed. HAHA. I had some Pork Tenderloin, and Miguel ordered Buffalo Chicken. We also ordered an all-meat pizza. And so we stayed in the resto for almost two hours. Thanks for the birthday treat, love youuuu :D
I had to take a nap after because I’m too full. :))
Butch & Karen’s Birthday Surprise! OMG. I was literally jumping when I saw their birthday present(s) for me! I love you girls! This is too much awesomeness in one gift — old school music + vinyl records + my love for the ’70s. AWESOME. Really awesome!
Birthday Celebration at E5! At around 3PM, my mom arrived in our apartment to deliver a big bilao of my favourite pancit from Fel-Sar and boxes of Puto Binan. We also ordered some chicken from Chooks-to-Go.
My friends came at around 5:30, after their class (because most of them are classmates), and some stayed until past midnight! :D AND SO, it’s nonstop eating! HAHA.
Sir Ed, who celebrated his birthday the previous day, arrived with some chips and ice cream! THANK YOU SIR! :D
We played some games until midnight.
Kin and Kla, with Josh, arrived at around 11PM and brought ice cream! Yeah, we had a lot of ice cream that night — 5 flavours all in all! HAHA :D
It’s a happy birthday indeed! Thanks to everyone who made my day special! :D It’s an alcohol-free night by the way… for a change. :)) No actually, most of us have exams the next day, so… eh.
